What's the difference between percentage points and percent change?
If a rate rises from 25% to 40%, that's a 15 percentage point increase, but a 60% relative increase (15 ÷ 25 × 100). Percentage points measure the raw difference; percent change measures the relative difference.
Why does this distinction matter?
News reports and statistics on interest rates, tax rates and survey results often mix up 'percentage points' and 'percent', which can make changes look much bigger or smaller than they really are.
