Frequently Asked Questions
How is ceiling different from rounding?
Rounding goes to the nearest whole number either up or down. Ceiling always rounds up (or stays the same if already a whole number), even for something like 4.01.
What about negative numbers?
The ceiling of a negative number still rounds toward positive infinity — for example, the ceiling of −4.7 is −4, not −5.
