This calculator provides an estimate for general informational purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional financial, mechanical or engineering advice.
Front-end DTI isolates housing costs as a share of gross income, separate from other debts, and is one of the two DTI figures mortgage lenders check when underwriting a loan.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the formula?
Front-End DTI % = Monthly Housing Payment ÷ Gross Monthly Income × 100.
How is this different from regular DTI?
Regular (back-end) DTI includes all debts — credit cards, car loans, student loans, plus housing. Front-end DTI looks at housing costs alone, which many mortgage lenders cap around 28%.
