Retirement Savings Projection Calculator

Projects your retirement account balance from current savings plus ongoing monthly contributions and an assumed return.

This calculator provides an estimate for general informational purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional financial, medical, engineering or legal advice.

This calculator combines two standard compound-growth components: your existing balance growing at the assumed rate, plus a future-value-of-an-ordinary-annuity calculation for your regular monthly contributions. Both pieces are compounded monthly at your assumed annual return and added together to project your balance at the end of the period. It's a simplified planning tool — real markets don't return a smooth constant rate every year — but it's useful for stress-testing different contribution amounts or return assumptions.

Example

  • With the default values shown above, this calculator returns: Projected Balance ≈ $519544.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this account for inflation?

No — this projects nominal future dollars at the assumed rate of return; if you want a 'real' (inflation-adjusted) projection, use an expected return net of inflation instead.

Are contributions assumed to happen every month without gaps?

Yes, the model assumes a constant monthly contribution invested at a constant monthly-compounded rate for the full period — real returns will vary year to year.
