UK Take-Home Pay Calculator

Estimate your UK take-home pay after Income Tax and National Insurance.

This is an estimate for general informational purposes only, not tax advice. It applies England, Wales & Northern Ireland rates (Scotland has different Income Tax bands) and does not include pension contributions, student loan repayments, or benefits-in-kind.

This calculator uses the England, Wales & Northern Ireland Income Tax bands and Class 1 employee National Insurance rates and thresholds, including the Personal Allowance taper above £100,000. Scotland has different Income Tax bands, which this calculator does not model.

Example

  • With the default values shown above, this calculator returns: Personal Allowance ≈ £12570.00; Taxable Income ≈ £22430.00; Income Tax ≈ £4486.00; National Insurance ≈ £1794.40; Take-Home Pay (Annual) ≈ £28719.60; Take-Home Pay (Monthly) ≈ £2393.30.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work for Scotland?

No — Scotland has its own Income Tax bands and rates, set separately by the Scottish Parliament. This calculator uses the rUK (England, Wales & Northern Ireland) bands.

Why does my Personal Allowance show as less than £12,570?

The Personal Allowance is reduced by £1 for every £2 of income above £100,000, reaching £0 at £125,140 — this is often called the “60% tax trap” because of the resulting high marginal rate in that band.
