Engine Displacement Calculator

Enter the cylinder bore, piston stroke and number of cylinders to calculate total engine displacement.

Engine Displacement Calculator

Calculate an engine's total displacement in cubic centimeters and liters from its bore, stroke and cylinder count.

This calculator provides an estimate for general informational purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional financial, mechanical or engineering advice.

Engine displacement — the total volume swept by all pistons — is calculated by treating each cylinder as a cylinder shape (π/4 × bore² × stroke) and multiplying by the number of cylinders.

Example

  • With the default values shown above, this calculator returns: Engine Displacement (cc) ≈ 1,998.23; Engine Displacement (liters) ≈ 2.00.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the formula?

Displacement per cylinder = π ÷ 4 × Bore² × Stroke. Multiply by the number of cylinders for total displacement.

What is 'bore' and 'stroke'?

Bore is the diameter of each cylinder; stroke is the distance the piston travels up and down inside it. Both are usually given in millimeters on a spec sheet.
